Adjudicators

Join our Adjudicator Team evaluating High School Theater

The Majestic Empire Foundation is seeking performing arts professionals with backgrounds in education, music, theater, dance, production and related fields in the San Antonio and South Texas region to join our Official Adjudication Team for the 2024-2025 Performing Arts Scholarship Program.

Since the program’s inception in 2009, MEF has awarded over $1.6 million in scholarships to 500 students, making it the single largest scholarship program for the performing arts in the United States. As a member of the National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York City, The Joci Awards is a catalyst for young talents from San Antonio all the way to the lower Rio Grande Valley to receive musical theater, acting, and dance coaching with support and recognition on a regional and national scale.

In 2025, the Joci Awards will move to the historic Majestic Theatre, driven by a surge in participation. In 2024, applications jumped 60%, with 354 students from 71 high schools. This year, we’re on track for a 210% increase. The 2024 Joci Awards sold out with a waitlist of eager patrons. To meet our increased demand, rehearsals and workshops will shift to The Josephine Theatre, and the move to the Majestic Theatre will expand seating and introduce a new category—Best Ensemble—showcasing entire high school groups. These changes will triple our reach, engaging 500 students and 3,000 participants, and further strengthen theater arts education across districts.

Adjudicator Duties

As an adjudicator, you will attend a high school production anonymously and help score “Best Lead Actor in a Musical” and “Best Lead Actress in a Musical” candidates that have been submitted by their high school theater directors. Those scores will be factored into the next round of auditions for one of the 40 coveted spots in The Joci Awards held each May. From there, two students from these categories from the Joci Awards will go on to represent South Texas at “The Jimmy Awards” in June. In New York City, Jimmy Awards nominees spend a week working with Broadway professionals before performing at the Minskoff Theatre. We are proud to boast that our 2022 Jimmy Awards Representative Nicholas Barrón took home the overall title of Best Performance by an Actor!

If you’d like to be part of our paid Adjudication Team directly impacting and shaping the growth of high school performing arts students in South Texas, then we would love to have you join us for our upcoming 2024-2025 season!
